Welcome!
Charles is currently working with Dr. George Hirasaki and his adviser Dr. Lisa Biswal on studying multi-phase fluid flows in microfluidic devices. He has expertise in micromodel (microfluidic) fabrication with experimental emphasis on gas, liquid, and foam flooding in model porous media with application in reservoir engineering and enhanced oil recovery.
He has previously interned as a research & development engineer at Shell’s Gasmer Prototype Test Facility in Houston, testing the feasibility of electrical heating of reservoirs for in-situ conversion and upgrading (ICP & IUP) of heavy oils. This summer he is interning with Shell’s Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) upstream group. Upon graduation Charles hopes to work in R&D for new technologies in the energy industry.
Charles is the CHBE department’s Graduate Student Association (GSA) President for 2013-2014, and member of the newly-formed Rice Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) chapter (formerly the Rice-UH joint chapter). In his free time he enjoys spending time with his wife Alyssa and their dog Kepler, cycling, board games, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, and trying to learn Python programming.
